2. Canon Character Information

Name: Jeremy Gilbert

Appearance: Jeremy was handsome, tall (6'), with a skinny but toned frame that he is growing into. He has a short dark brown hair, and had brown eyes.

Powers/Talents: Jeremy is able to see ghosts after he was brought back from the dead by witches’ magic. He also wears a ring that will bring him back from the dead if he dies by a supernatural means/creature.

Personality: Jeremy is your typical angst-ridden teenager who feels that his life is meaningless and only can see the pain in everything around him. In the last year of his life, he lost both his parents to a car accident where they drowned leaving only his sister Elena alive.

Jeremy tends to react in reckless ways when he is hurting. He resorted to drug and alcohol during that summer as a coping mechanism of his parents’ deaths, as well as hooking up with the sister of his best friend. Her death would eventually lead him on a downward spiral that ended with a bottle of pills and a vial of vampire blood in a suicide attempt that wouldn’t work. Later on, his breakup with Bonnie leads him to go learn how to use weapons and recklessly fire them at his friends.

His cry for help came as a shock to many, and his family came around Jeremy at that point to start helping him understand more of the world around him and not treat him like a child. He was growing up in a world that he knew he needed to understand, and one that wasn’t going to be safe for him as a mortal among monsters. He sees how it starts to affect his sister most of all, and he wants to be able to protect her, no matter how capable Elena is of protecting herself. After Jenna and John die, she is all that he has left and he will do anything to protect her.

Jeremy loves easy, and falls hard and fast. In the span of a year he falls in love three times, and the first two end with the deaths of the girls that doesn’t allow him to fall out of love before he’s in love again with the next girl. This often causes issues in his relationships since he has the ability to see ghosts and his dead girlfriends tend to literally haunt him.

Death has visited Jeremy numerous times, from having his neck snapped by Damon on multiple occasions to letting his heart be stopped in an effort to kill Klaus, so he doesn’t fear death at all. The effects of multiple deaths, however, is a factor that Jeremy doesn’t talk much about even though it is feared that too many supernatural rebirths will drive him insane. He always wakes up to have someone close at his side, which gives him comfort that he is never alone. After all the deaths of the people he loves, he fears being left alone the worst.

At the point of canon that he is being pulled from, however, his personality has been altered due to a complusion from Damon. Because of a choice by Elena to protect her brother after Klaus nearly killed him, Damon tells Jeremy:

“Here's the thing, Jer. You're gonna go out of town for a while - a long while. You're gonna stay with some nice family friends in Denver, you're gonna be at a new school, you'll meet new girls, living girls. You're going to drink a few beers, take an art class. You do whatever you want... you're gonna leave Mystic Falls behind and never think twice about it. You're gonna have a better life, Jeremy. “

Because of this, when Jeremy enters the game he is a more cheerful version of himself who believes his life is getting better and has been happy and normal for some time. He doesn’t think back about anything from Mystic Falls unless prompted to, and tends to follow that compulsion to the letter.

Why would your character be chosen? Jeremy is a lover, a protector, and someone who gets his strength from protecting those he loves most.

How much does your character know about nonhumans? Considering his sister is dating a vampire, one of his friends is a hybrid werewolf and he was dating a ghost and a witch at different times... he has a good basic knowledge of all that goes bump in the night. He has spent a long time studying the local Mystic Falls vampire lore so he is most familiar with that.

Why this character: Jeremy is your fun, typical teenage character who is just enjoying life. He has seen the bad, though right now he doesn’t feel the same emotional connection as he had for the last year. He already has two castmates in the game - Elena and Matt - who are his sister and best friend. It will be interesting to see his reaction to a different world that he knows nothing about and how he can protect his “family” in it while they try to protect him.

First-Person:

So, um... this prince guy. He does know that kidnapping isn’t a good way to win someone over right? I’m pretty sure that it’s illegal in all fifty states and well, probably most of the world. I’d have to check with Alaric on that last bit, but I can be pretty sure that’s what he’d tell me.

[Jeremy looks around, rubbing at his arm a moment]

I was told people come here from all around the world. There wouldn’t be anyone here from Mystic Falls at all? Just so I know if I’m alone or not here...

[his face shows that he really doesn’t want to be alone at all, but trying not to look scared at the thought of being the only one here from his life]



Third-Person: Every time he woke up from dying, someone was next to him. Someone who loved him wanting to make sure he knew they were there. He was sure that when Elena woke up after what Klaus did... he knew that he couldn’t let her be alone. Jenna was gone now, and John too. All that was left now were the two of them.

He had to keep reminding himself that she wasn’t dead now as she slept in her bed. He was supposed to be asleep himself, but he was having bad dreams again. He hadn’t seen Aunt Jenna’s death, but he had an active imagination and could make up his own horrors of what had happened.

It was his job now to protect Elena. Screw the Salvatores - all this started when they showed up in their lives. If it wasn’t for them, everyone would still be alive and their lives would be normal. No one would know that his sister was this doppelganger and they could just continue to live in peace.

But that wasn’t a choice for them. Normal wasn’t a choice. So he silently swore to himself that once the funerals were over, he was going to talk to Alaric and really start training. He needed to take over as the man of the house now, and if that meant he would die another dozen times to make sure his sister lived, so be it.

His sister wasn’t going to get hurt anymore. Not by Klaus, and if he could figure out how to do it, not by either Salvatore brother as well.


Third Sample: AU world where Jeremy is happy and visiting his demon hunting sister for Easter and makes horrible jokes about Iowa
