Easter Break

Elena was in Iowa, and while he was on the road and would be in LA as Easter hit, Elena insisted that he come to her.

In Iowa.

So he was on a greyhound back to the land of.... okay, Jeremy wasn't really sure what Iowa was known for, but it had to be known for something.

He arrived Friday in the mid-morning, and texted his sister when he arrived. It was a tiny roadside station, and thankfully it was actually in the sixties so he could sit on his duffel-bag with his sketchpad on his lap and was working on drawing the landscape while he waited.

Jeremy just tilted his head a bit with a look of annoyance. "Really, Elena? You know me better than that. I gave that stuff up."

Well, except for a few joints now and then. But that wasn't major. That was just him and the roadies blowing steam after a late night breaking the set down.

And maybe a few drinks with Ben and the guys on the tour bus.

Okay, maybe he needed to clarify.

"I'm not abusing anything. I'd lose my job."

"I didn't think you were. I just ... know sometimes things can be tempting." And she isn't there to watch his back. "I'm allowed to double check."

"so then you don't want to know about the women, right?"

[braveandstupid]

"No. Definitely not. Not ever."

[littlest_gilbert]

Jeremy just walked over to give his sister a playful nudge. "Then stop asking so many questions."

"I am allowed to ask as many questions as I want. I never see you anymore. I don't know what's going on."

[littlest_gilbert]

"Well, the tour wraps up on the first of May, so I'm going to be unemployed at that point. I've got a few offers to crash with friends in LA, but if you want..."

Elena would love that. Really love that. But ... "I wouldn't want to derail your summer with my boring Iowa existence."

[littlest_gilbert]

"Well, if you're going to be busy with like, summer school by day, monster slaying by night, I'd probably not see you that much anyway, right?"

[braveandstupid]

"I'd make the time. And we do get some breaks during the summer."

[littlest_gilbert]

He actually was thinking of coming back anyway, but he didn't want to just outright ask if he could crash with her.

"Think there'd be time to go to the cabin?"

[braveandstupid]

Her head snaps around in surprise, a wide grin crossing her face. "Would you want to?"

[littlest_gilbert]

"Well, yeah. I mean, it's our spot. We could have time out there just the two of us, and when we're ready to kill each other, totally invite like Matt, Tyler, Bonnie and Caroline up to just have a grand reunion party or something."

[braveandstupid]

"That sounds great. I'd love that."

[littlest_gilbert]

"Then I guess I'll come spend the summer here, so that when you have time to go out to the cabin, we can just go."

[braveandstupid]

"Perfect. I'll look forward to it."

[littlest_gilbert]

Jeremy just smiled. "Your couch better be comfortable then if I'm going to be here all summer."

[braveandstupid]

"My couch is awesome. And it pulls out. But I also have a guest room which would probably be a lot more comfortable."

[littlest_gilbert]

"Even better. Almost as if you wanted me to move in with you."

[braveandstupid]

"I wouldn't mind if you did."

[littlest_gilbert]

"Then it's a good thing I am having the rest of my stuff shipped to your place this week," Jeremy rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.

She glances back, starting at him for a minute, before grinning and pulling him closer. "Come on. I'll show you where you're sleeping."

Jeremy laughed, letting his sister pull him along. A year apart had made him realize just how much he missed her. They were all they had left, really.

He could go back on the road again in the fall. He needed his sister right now.

She brings him upstairs to the apartment and unlocks the door before pulling them both inside. "It's not the biggest place in the world, but it's big enough. Living room, kitchen, bathroom and the bedrooms."

"Are we going to have to share the bathroom?" He raised an eyebrow.
